ABOUT EMILIANO - view Emiliano's Art

Art is a path that I have followed my whole life long, and there is no stopping in sight. As a young boy, drawing was as natural as a playing in the creek. Making forms in clay was divine play, the enjoyment of creation. Nature has always held the secrets of God, the greatest teacher worth observing. I sometimes say, “Every child loves to draw, I just never stopped.”

I figured out in grade school that, besides having an affinity for art, there were people who drew, painted, and created shapes. That was just what “they” did, and I was one of “them”. From that point on I made artistic training a focus of my education, taking lessons as I could, and spending much of my free time at my drawing table. I wasn’t the best, but I was good and I loved it enough to devote myself to seeing what I could learn about myself, and the world through art. I began to recognize “Masters”, some well known, some more obscure, some that maybe only I would call by that name.

I decided after high school to stay in my hometown and study art at The University of California at Santa Barbara. I was able to study many wonderful things there, so many aspects of the world, all the time developing my artistic sensitivities and techniques. As a senior at U.C.S.B., I went as an exchange student to study sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art in Venice, Italy for a year. An incredible year in a beautiful country in a magical city.  Removed from the familiar, you meet yourself. After graduating with Honors from U.C.S.B., I went to The Netherlands where I worked for many years as an illustrator, sculptor, portraitist, décor painter, designer, creative director, and muralist. It was there that I met Mary Johnson, and we started to build our Nest Design. We now bring our work and visions to the world together as a loving team.

We inspire each other in work and life, and returned home together at the end of 2004 to beautiful Santa Barbara. Now we are enjoying spreading our creative wings here, and there is no stopping in sight.
